Art of Peace - Tyler is an East Texas celebration of the United Nations International Day of Peace, marked around the world each year on September 21.
Cofounded and co-directed by Anne McCrady, Art of Peace - Tyler offers arts-based events throughout the week of Day of Peace, including visual art, live music, children's activities, community gatherings, college programs, a peace meal, a peace pole installation and a living peace sign. Passionate about the connection between poetry and peace, Anne is the contributing editor of an annual collection of peace poems that InSpiritry published each September, in conjunction with the Art of Peace - Tyler celebration.
Over the past eight years, hundreds of poets from Texas, the U.S. and around the world have submitted their work to the Art of Peace anthologies, with outstanding writing related to the annual Art of Peace Tyler themes. Anthology titles have included PeaceWords, Hunger for Peace, Intertwined, Paths to Peace - Journey to Wholeness, and Building Bridges - Making Peace, and Sowing Seeds of Peace.
In 2019, InSpiritry's peace poetry collection will be presented as a virtual anthology with the selected poems posted online at the Art of Peace - Tyler website, www.tylerpeace.com. The 2019 anthology theme is Living Peace. Poets are asked to consider the many meanings, connotations and metaphors suggested by the theme!
A reading of the 2019 Art of Peace - Tyler poetry anthology, along with an Open Mic of Poetry, Stories and Spoken Word, will be held during this year's Art of Peace celebration in September. The program will be held on Friday, September 20, at the Discovery Science Place Annex in Downtown Tyler, Texas. It is open to the public and will be hosted by Spoken Word Artist and Poetry Promoter, Michael Guinn. More details to follow.
