Thanks, Kyle, here we are a month later and health care reform is still mired in accusations and mis-statements. As the daughter, wife and mother of doctors -- as well as a person with a chronic disease (asthma) and a heart for uninsured families -- I continue to hope we can find a way to take care of each other!!

Thanks for your comments. Those of us who believe in creating a health system that serves the Greater Good can help by replacing the fear-mongering label "socialized" (which to the dismay of critics of healthcare reform describes America's favorite program, Medicare!) with the more precise and progressive term "universal." It is also important to remember that, because of their frustration in socio-economic rationing of care, in addition to the uninsured and forward-thinking politicians, most primary care providers (nurses, doctors, hospitals, clinics) agree that universal care is the answer to the Greater Good for medicine. We need to bring them into the national discussion. InSpiritry's values of Community, Compassion, Creativity, Collaboration and Courage all come into play here. Let's speak up for the Greater Good!

In the UK we take for granted the free health care we get on the NHS. Although we do pay for it in taxes and NI contributions it is still work out a lot cheaper than many American health insurance policies.

While I deplore the idea of "socializing" our health care delivery system, I strongly believe that the private insurance companies are a huge part of the problem. I favor a Medicare type program for everyone with private carriers acting in a supplemental role. It seems to be working for us "old" folks!!
