Question for the Day: May 28, 2009

“We are what we repeatedly do.“   Aristotle

Think about how you spend an ordinary day. Much of our time is filled with things we repeatedly do! Aristotle reminds us that as we take actions over and over again, they become our habit of living and finally our way of being. Of course, that can be good news or bad. While many of our repeated actions –getting up, taking a shower, going to work– are neccesary tasks, we have choices about “how” we do even those routine things. More important are the subconscious things we “repeatedly do”: positive things like hugging our children, being patient with store clerks or acting within the law, but also more problemsome habits like overspending our budget or being unethical or complaining when things go wrong.

So, what’s on the list of things your friends, family members and coworkers would say you ”repeatedly do”? Which things have become your habit of living? How have they become your way of being?
