InSpiritry Question for the Day: May 20, 2009
“Human history is in essence a history of ideas.”
H. G. Wells
Most of us, when we look back in time, have periods that intrigue us — prehistoric epochs, Biblical Times, the 1700s, WW II, the 60s. Sometimes it is because we like the customs or culture of the day. Sometimes we admire the spirit or simplicity of the times; others of us would like to relive events or discoveries that changed the world forever. H. G. Wells said that our history is really the story of our ideas. It’s true — in politics, technology, economics, art, social justice, parenting, transportation — humanity has made its mark on the world with our continuing evolving ideas.
Think about your own opinions, knowledge and values. When in history did those ideas begin to be developed? How were they handed down to you? How is your experience tied to other eras?
