25 Days to Make a Difference
“…a little child shall lead them”
Meet Laura.
Laura is a ten year old American girl who is ready to lead. With a belief in every person’s power to make the world a better place, Laura has launched a December, 2007 project called Twenty Five Days to Make a Difference. For those whose faith experience includes a season of Advent as well as those who just love Christmas, Laura is giving us a new approach to the holidays. How?
In honor of a beloved grandfather, beginning December 1 and continuing for 25 days until Christmas, Laura has decided to do something for others every day. She started her own 25 days of goodness this weekend and will complete her project on Christmas Day. As pictured above, her first day’s contribution was shoveling snow for her family and neighbors. In the coming days, you can follow Laura’s daily activities at her blog, http://twentyfivedays.wordpress.com.
As if doing things for others herself were not enough, Laura is taking this idea one step further, she is encouraging other kids (and adults) to join her campaign. In fact, she is inviting everyone to email her about their daily efforts in a sort of competition for who can make the most difference in the world in December. She even plans to give $25 or her own money to the charity of choice of the winner! Here’s Laura’s instructions for those who want to join her efforts:
Leave a comment or send me an email at stockmanangela(at)gmail(dot)com and let me know what you did and when you did it. Even if you can’t do something every day, you can do one small thing to help make your world a better place.
So what are we waiting for? It’s already December 2! Let’s join Laura’s amazing adventure. In the next 23 days, let’s each:
- Commit to one act for the Greater Good each day until Christmas. Let’s keep a list or use a calendar– or, like Nike commercials say, Just Do It! If you need ideas, Laura’s website has some suggestions.
- Share Laura’s idea with the children in our lives; encourage them to do one good thing each day. What a great new version of an Advent calendar (remembering it is more blessed to give than receive)! One note: join the fun. When we do things with children, we affirm the message of the Greater Good even more.
- Make it personal. Let the idea of intentional actions for the benefit of others extend past Christmas Day to become your first New Year’s resolution. You can make a difference in your own life and the lives of others!
As I wrote to Laura, her 25 Days to Make a Difference Campaign is a perfect example of personal InSpiritry: Intentionally living for the Greater Good in practical ways that inspire and encourage others to do the same. Let’s honor Laura’s leadership and vision–What a perfect Christmas gift to our world!
When We Intentionally Make a Difference, We Can Be a Blessing!
