Women and Children

 Save the Women and Children!

Most of the casualties were Women and Children!

Who will protect the Women and Children?

The phrase “Women and Children” conjures up, for many, a vulnerable population in a dangerous situation. There are, though, some of us who believe that women and children are far from passive victims to violence who need more violence to save them. In fact, we believe that, because women and children innately know that aggression begets aggression, women and children also are motivated to seek alternatives to violence (military, economic, social and domestic). Further, we believe that once empowered, women and children will naturally find peaceful solutions– that women and children are the solution.

This summer, I attended the international Women’s Peace Conference in Dallas where I met an extraordinary young American woman named Dr. Sarah McCue. Sarah has big ideas and an even bigger heart. She saw the path to peace as a market-savvy, creative, collaborative process for courageous, passionate, intelligent women.  Sarah is the president of an organization called Peace by Peace (Peace x Peace), founded by Patricia Smith Melton. Both women have impressive backgrounds that have led to an interesting array of corporate and private partners and methods.

After returning home, I joined and now support Peace by Peace as a member — something I recommend! Their website includes inspiration, information and connections to a wide variety of interesting initiatives. Their newest offering is a music/photo slideshow available through their site and also on Utube. Full of the faces of children around the world, enhanced with original music and produced by women of peace, it is a happy alternative to the idea that violence is what’s needed to protect women and children. Further, it is a reminder that we can improve the world piece by piece, peace by peace. Take a minute to watch it and consider the lyrics…and the faces!

  • What could you do today to honor the courageous women in your life?
  • How could you empower a child whose fate has been forgotten?
  • Where in your world can you offer a little piece of peace?

For women and men, adults and children, InSpiritry is the practice of community, compassion, creativity, collaboration, consilience, courage and celebration. Peace is the result.

Peace by Peace, We Can Be a Blessing!
