InSpiritry® - A Way of Life
Living With a Passion for the Greater Good
Besides naming Anne McCrady's entrepreneurial efforts, the word, InSpiritry, also describes an open-hearted lifestyle and organizational paradigm focused on working toward The Greater Good. Practitioners of InSpiritry see themselves as part of a dynamic global community. They impact the world through powerful words, innovative ideas, courageous actions and inspirational relationships.
Of course, there are many books, websites and programs that promise "motivation" and even "inspiration." Some target self-help efforts. Some are based on a particular religion. Others focus on business settings. While each of us wants to be our best, the world needs its leaders to do more than maximize their own personal potential, their company's bottom line or even the nation's prosperity. In fact, the future depends on our ability to see how we can contribute to The Greater Good.
In answer to that, InSpiritry as a practice is based on specific methods of facilitating the Greater Good which Anne calls the Seven C's:
- Community - connecting to self, nature, God & humanity
- Compassion – having an open heart for others
- Creativity – seeking new ways and new ideas
- Collaboration – the synergy of integrating diverse voices
- Consilience – seeing the unity and value of all knowledge
- Courage – acting with values-based strength of character
- Celebration - living with a sense of gratitude, optimism and joy
The fruit of silence is prayer.
The fruit of prayer is faith.
The fruit of faith is love.
The fruit of love is service.
The fruit of service is peace.

How Can You Practice InSpiritry?
All of us are capable of InSpiritry®. We just have to open our hearts, our minds and our lives to the power of the Greater Good. When we look beyond our own self-interest, we discover a world of possibilities!
InSpiritry calls us to embrace the Seven C's in a very personal way. In doing so, we also find we can be an inspiration to others!
Here are some suggestions for adding InSpiritry® to your life:
- Practice generosity
- Look for the beauty of everyday things
- Invest in the wealth of relationships
- Use words that work for good
- Make knowledge your path to understanding
- Find the humor and holiness in difficult situations
- Consider the unimaginable – be creative
- Support the politics of possiblity
- See our common story unfolding in the world
In various arenas, you may have experienced these things as faithfulness, friendship, lifelong learning, artistic expression, customer service, community outreach, social entrepreneurism or even peacemaking. All of those descriptions still fit, but taken together they lead to an inspired livestyle whose gifts keep on giving -- InSpiritry®.
InSpiritry® takes place when any of us step out beyond our own self-interest to consider what is best for others, what is good for all of us, what our God would call us to do.
Imagination is stronger than knowledge—
myth is more potent than history—
dreams are more powerful than facts—
hope always triumphs over experience—
laughter is the cure for grief—
love is stronger than death.

InSpiritry® - The Story e
Where did the word InSpiritry Come From?
When asked the origin of the word, Anne McCrady tells this story:
When people asked me how my various occupations and avocations fit together, I wanted one word that would offer the idea that writing, storytelling, activism, politics and spirituality all connect us to each other, to the "Greater Good."
A product of her experiences as a survivor of asthma, a woman of faith and an enthusiastic believer in the power of inspiration, Anne says that one day she began pushing and pulling letters in various combinations: Spirit, Inspire, In-spirit, In-spirit-ry. Inspiritry. InSpiritry!
As she considered it, she realized that the connotations of the root word affirmed her physical and spiritual experiences: breath, into, inspiration, spirit and the act of. InSpiritry®, she thought, would be a sort of ministry of inspiration, creativity and service. One friend interpreted it as: "in spirit, try," a reminder of how the best of us approach our lives.
Love and I had a will to win.
We drew a circle and took him in.
Shel Silverstein |
Secured as her trademark, InSpiritry® has become the umbrella for Anne’s many efforts. On a more personal level, Anne says she often compares InSpiritry® to the simple act of breathing: taking in and giving back, taking in and giving back. She describes how when she was younger and had asthma, she often spent hours in the rhythm of pulling and pushing air. Now, she says, creative energy moves through her: life in and love out, old in and new out, conflict in and peace out, experience in and wisdom out.
Anne again:
"Inspiration should do more than make us feel good about our own lives.
InSpiritry® is a widening circle of optimism and possibility,
a way for us to encourage and empower each other
as we work for the sacred purpose of our Greater Good."
